I built this tool for architecture students and practitioners who need to make quick, informed decisions about natural ventilation — without the overhead of professional CFD software.

Full CFD tools are powerful but complex. They demand significant setup time, technical expertise, and hardware resources that most design studios simply don't have during early-stage exploration. I wanted to change that.

BEM Studio is focused on getting you meaningful results in under two minutes — draw your floor plan, set a wind direction, and immediately see how air moves through the space. The environment is interactive by design: adjust a wall, open a window, add vegetation, and watch the flow respond in real time.

It isn't a substitute for rigorous CFD analysis, and it doesn't pretend to be. But for early design decisions — comparing ventilation strategies, identifying stagnant zones, understanding cross-ventilation potential — it gives you a fast, visual, intuitive starting point.

What the tool does — and what it doesn't.

🌬️
2D Pressure-Flow Solver
A simplified Gauss-Seidel pressure solver computes velocity fields each frame. It's not a full Navier-Stokes simulation — it's a fast, visual approximation suited to early-stage design decisions.
Core Engine
🧱
Interactive Layout Builder
Draw walls, openings, and vegetation directly on the canvas. Set the grid scale to match your space — from a single room to a building footprint. Results update immediately as you draw.

Zone Comfort Indicators
Colour-coded pressure and velocity overlays highlight stagnant areas, high-flow corridors, and sheltered zones. Useful as a qualitative guide — not a substitute for validated CFD or engineering assessment.
Indicative Only
🧭
Wind Direction & Speed
Set wind direction across 360° and adjust speed to explore how different conditions affect flow through your layout. Good for comparing natural ventilation options side by side.
Environmental
🎨
Flow & Pressure Overlays
Toggle particle streamlines, pressure heatmaps, and velocity vectors. The pressure field shows relative high and low zones — the values are indicative, not calibrated to real-world Pa readings.

Save & Share Projects
Save your floor plan and settings as a JSON file to pick up where you left off, or share with a colleague. Export canvas snapshots as PNG for use in reports and presentations.

Check your inbox for the BEM Studio activation email. One click and your account is live — no waiting, no approval process.
03 — Build
Sketch your layout
Draw walls and openings on the grid, place vegetation, and set your wind conditions. The simulation runs continuously — no need to press a button to see results.
04 — Analyse
Read the flow patterns
Use pressure heatmaps and particle traces to identify dead zones, high-velocity corridors, and shelter effects. Treat the output as a qualitative starting point, not a final engineering answer.
